HOW 100 Supports

The Minnie Pearl Cancer Foundation…

We are just so proud
to support
Hope on Wheels!

For over 20 years The Minnie Pearl Cancer Foundation has been committed to offering hope through research, support, and education.  Founded in 1987 as a nonprofit public charity, The Foundation has reached out to the Middle Tennessee community and beyond through its Patient Resource Center, a unique library on the Centennial Medical Center complex that offers

  • up-to-date educational, inspirational, and support materials regarding cancer and its treatment
  • on-site oncology social workers
  • an on-site registered dietitian
  • cancer research support through The Minnie Pearl Cancer Research Network

Regardless of treating oncologist or hospital affiliation, and free of charge, cancer patients and their families have access to a comprehensive source of cancer support and information.   In addition to the services provided through our Patient Resource Center and addressing the unmet needs of cancer patients, the Foundation has developed the following programs:

  • “Cancer Resource Roadmap” resource guide for the Middle Tennessee community and beyond
  • “Cancer in the Workplace” DVD, which educates employers about the challenges employees face when dealing with a cancer diagnosis, undergoing treatment, and maintaining employment, and which has been distributed throughout the country
  • Annual Young Adult Cancer Survivor Retreat, the only retreat of its type offered in the Southeast, which offers a community of camaraderie among typically isolated young adult cancer survivors ages 18 – 40 and encourages shared experiences, resources, team-building, and healthy survivorship

We are an active Foundation whose guiding principles come from our namesake, Minnie Pearl, the stage name created by comedienne Sarah Cannon, a compassionate cancer survivor herself who helped establish a foundation to provide hope through research, support, and education.  Although we recognize the devastating impact of a cancer diagnosis, we promote the hope that advancements in research bring and acknowledge the priceless value of positive support.  We are honored to be the HOW100 beneficiary and are grateful for your participation and support, which will further the growth of the Foundation and the research needed to save lives from breast cancer.  We sincerely appreciate friends like you who support our efforts to provide “a place for hope through research, support, and education.”
