Jenny's story: "The Inspiration Behind the 2009 Top Fundraiser, Jenny Young"

One thing all women have in common is the fear of being diagnosed with breast cancer. I have read the pamphlets that describe the factors that put a woman in the higher risk bracket. I have never had children, for example. But the big factor is I have a sister and mother who have had breast cancer. My mother is 86 and had breast cancer in the early 90's. She had a mastectomy and is cancer free. My sister was told she had cancer last summer and is now doing well after treatment. They are both beautiful, strong women.

New! HOW100 Volunteers Are the Greatest

As event director for the HOW100, I have had the pleasure of directing the greatest team of volunteers ever assembled. The majority of HOW100 volunteers come back year after year to continue the wonderful traditions of Hope on Wheels and their efforts are the reason our bike ride continues to be a perfect day of celebration in Leiper's Fork. - Vida Greer

New! 2009 Top Fundraisers

Hundreds of women trained to make a difference by riding in Hope on Wheels, but a dedicated group also embraced a bit of fundraising to insure that the Minnie Pearl Cancer Foundation could continue making a difference in the lives of local women fighting this disease. Thanks to each of them for advancing our cause in this most special way!

New! We Love Whole Foods Grocery!

For our entire history we have enjoyed the constant support of Whole Foods Grocery. Participants come back year after year, and let us know that they appreciate the cookies in our rest stops, not to mention the tasty, healthy lunches provided by Whole Foods.

The Minnie Pearl Cancer Foundation - Resources in the Fight Against Breast Cancer

Part of the beauty of supporting the Minnie Pearl Cancer Foundation (MPCF) is knowing that this organization supports our local community in so many ways. A woman dealing with the devastation of a cancer diagnosis has so many needs. The supportive staff of the MPCF offers so many resources for patients and families. Read more about a few of the many services offered - you might be able to direct a friend or loved one to the foundation for assistance.

An Inspiring Teenager Who Gives Back

Every year in the Hope on Wheels history we have seen a number of young girls accept the challenge of fundraising in the fight against breast cancer. It really warms the heart to see a young woman step up and set a great example for all of us. Lindsey Khim has certainly been a leader in this impressive group of young fundraisers. Lindsey has been a top fundraiser for three years. She and her mother Mary are also HOW100 regulars, riding together in the event each year.

Hope on Wheels at Work and Play or Both, Together!

One of our committed HOW100 alumni, Liz Leedle who is a 5-year survivor, recognized Hope on Wheels as a prime outlet to promote health, fitness and a sense of community in one of the larger healthcare companies in the Nashville area, Healthways. Healthways, who embraces well-being for the community, was unaware of its number of cycling employees, both novice and distance riders. Let's just say that Liz brought Healthways to the table...

Let's Talk about the Routes

The riding in this area is absolutely fabulous. Most visitors are amazed at just how many miles of beautiful smoothly-paved roads we have, with virtually no traffic. Our longest climbs are only a mile or so, but our hills are constantly rolling and sometimes quite steep. We have used the tremendous assets at our disposal to give HOW100 riders three excellent ride choices.

We Made breakfast with Bulger on WSMV Channel 4!!

Terry Bulger is most at home wandering the Middle Tennessee backroads in search of the great characters that make up this state. Lots of people say he likes to find the unusual, but in some ways what he does find isn't always that strange. It's just real. Small wonder that he wanted to do an interesting story on Hope on Wheels!
